In May 2018, The District Docklands was fortunate enough to inherit one of the amazing Play Me, I'm Yours pianos and we are privileged to showcase this quirky piece of art in our Centre. So, if you're shopping with us, and you need a little pick-me-up, give the piano a try and add a little music to your day.

The piano is located on Wharf Street in the Centre.

Arts Centre Melbourne
From January 19 to February 4 2018, Arts Centre Melbourne installed 20 pianos in public locations around the Southbank arts precinct, across the CBD and beyond the city limits to metropolitan and greater Melbourne. The International Project
Touring internationally since 2008, Play Me, I’m Yours is an artwork by British artist Luke Jerram. To date, over 1700 acoustic pianos have been installed in 55 cities across the globe, from New York to Sao Paulo to London and returning to Melbourne in 2018, bearing the simple instruction ‘Play Me, I’m Yours’. Located in public parks and cultural centres, outside galleries and markets, on bridges and at and train stations: the pianos are available for any member of the public to play and enjoy.

Pianos are decorated by artists with local communities and by creating a place of exchange, Play Me, I’m Yours invites the public to engage with, activate and take ownership of their urban environment. After each presentation of the project, the pianos are donated to cultural and community groups in the local area.

Design and decoration of the pianos
In the months leading up to the event, Arts Centre Melbourne facilitated a community process for the decoration of the pianos. Working with a local visual artist, community and cultural groups have received support to develop and implement designs, sculptural treatments, materials and color palettes to transform the pianos before they hit the streets.
